And the Oscar goes to...
The first Academy Awards ceremony took place back in May 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Winners of the awards were notified three months before the live event and there were twelve categories but some nominations were given without stating a specific film. The host was the president of the AMPAS and actor, Douglas Fairbanks. The awards were created by the future head of MGM Studios, Louis B. Mayer and the show lasted a whooping fifteen minutes for the 270 guests in attendance. The major winners of the evening were 7th Heaven, Sunrise and Wings which won Best Picture. This was the one and only Academy Awards that was not broadcasted on either radio or television. Today the Oscars are considered the most prestigious award to the film industry and is an extremely high honor to be recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science. Many movies, actors, actresses, directors, composers and filmmakers have taken home these golden trophies but only a true film fan would be able to finish the titles to every single one of these Academy Award nominated movies that took home the win! Some of the most iconic movies include Wings, Gone With the Wind, Rebecca, It Happened One Night, My Man Godfrey, The Birds, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, Sabrina, The King and I, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Pianist, Chinatown, The Sting, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and many more!
