“Emmy” is a French alteration of the tv stand term “lmmy,’ the nickname for an image orthicon, which is a camera tube used in television production. The first Emmy Awards ceremony took place on January 25th in 1949 at the Hollywood Athletic Club in Los Angeles, California but was not publicly broadcasted until the 1950s. Since then it has been one of televisions most popular award and received by many of television’s most iconic stars and shows including “I Love Lucy,” “The Twilight Zone,” ‘Saturday Night Live,” “All in the Family,” and “The Sopranos.” Some notable classic shows to take home this golden statuette are “MAS*H,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Taxi,” “Bewitched,” “Cheers,” “The Practice,” “Seinfeld,” “The Wonder Years,” “The Golden Girls,” “The West Wing,” and “The X-Files.” More recent winners include “Friends,” “Will and Grace,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Breaking Bad,” “24,” “Lost,” “Mad Men,” “Game of Thrones” and “Homeland.”
